Q: can you work with animals and children?
Angle: sounds like a challenge
Most new BNZ stores feature large scale, backlit image panels, or Wonderwalls, to make
a big brand statement. Most currently feature photography that captures the local region. The brief for these two shoots revolved around animals and children because of BNZ’s sponsorship of Save the Kiwi and Plunket.
Creating BNZ Wonderwall images is complex because the configuration of panels, the size of panels and the location of the two screens varies from store to store. The focal point of each image must work around these constraints, so careful planning, directing, cropping and composing are essential. Two great shots are the result of an impressive team effort.

BNZ Wonderwall photography
They say never work with animals and children, but Angle recently concepted and art directed two shoots with DNA Auckland, for the Bank of New Zealand's in-store Wonderwall displays. BNZ are long-term sponsors of Save the Kiwi and Plunket, so the subject matter was Kiwis and babies.

Detail of the final composition
A short trek into the lower reaches of the Rimutaka Forest Park was the chosen location for this shot showing the release of two Kiwis back into the wild. It was a great privilege to be so close to these amazing birds and to work with talented people on both sides of the camera.

The final shot in the Wonderwall
Technical constraints require the final image to be composed of a number of shots seamlessly Photoshopped together.

BNZ Plunket wonderwall
Eleven adults and ten children were involved in this shot at the Plunket centre in Sandringham, Auckland. Plus a few more of the team behind the camera. Our star baby smiled on cue every time!

Detail of the final image
Half the trick in getting a natural shot is helping the subjects to feel comfortable and get them doing something they enjoy. Play Doh is always a good bet.

Final Plunket image as a wonderwall
The final image makes a very positive impression.
